Sharon Owens, USPS Vice President, Pricing & Costing, summarized the price changes the Postal Service proposes to go into effect in July 2024 at the MTAC open session this week. According to Owens, the 7.8 percent price increase is based on a 1.6 percent inflation-based increase, a density adder reflecting a reduction in mailpieces per delivery point of 4.3 percent and a 1.8 percent retirement adder. Periodicals, as an underwater mail class, will receive an additional 2 percent increase for a total price increase of 9.8 percent. Owens said that, despite these increases, the Postal Service is planning for an increase in letter mail because from political and election mail and as a result of the mail growth incentive program.
